Green Circles formed in 2001 and have played live shows in support of such groups as The Fall, The Raveonettes, Longwave, The Epoxies and The Rogers Sisters.
“Portland's dark and delicious Green Circles steamily conjure the inwardly focused minimalism and furrowed brows of Joy Division, Wire, Josef K, etc., but inject lots of their own personality (and a little pop) in the mix. The requisite baritone vocals have just a little bit of sexy rock scuz, and they are compelling over dance-y bass and drums. The guitars get tangled and brood... handclaps are involved... everybody feels primal. Green Circles bring out the eyeliner-wearing Brit in us all.”
- The Portland Mercury
“Stripped-down and serious, Green Circles are hitting their stride. With
texture over volume and poise over facade, the new seven-inch (Jigsaw/The Power) is a taut take on post-punk/New
Wave pastiche. This band buzzes with everything that made
college radio so great back in '83: jabs of guitar, wisps of synths and cold, cold, rock-'n'-roll minimalism. The difference between this band and the rest? The Green Circles have proof on plastic that there is more to playing moody post-punk dirges than short-haircuts and blackshirts.”
- The Willamette Weekly
“Green Circles combine stark indie-rock with punk and new wave influences to create a retro-futurist sound that's both claustrophobic and hopeful. Their lyrics sketch a dystopian picture of post-millennial social isolation and fear, sort of like this one band my boss use to play bass for... Gang Of Four, that's it!”
