“A lot of things lived happily together in the underground music of the '80s. Flouting Reagan-era politics, the punk, pop and new wave of the time all treaded a common "alternative" ground. Such terms were seen more as flags of camaraderie than separation, and it's this sense of commonality that eNTERTAINME.nt endeavors to bring back to underground music.”
- Creative Loafing
Conceived by Trey Ehart and Barry Watts under a blanket
of passion and frustration between a detuned bass and a
hollow drum kit at the end of 2001, Entertainme.nt creates
a tense and original mix of panicked fury and abusive self-reflection.
Their music combines 80's post-punk/deathrock
with the frenetic pop sensibilities of 60’s garage and pop,
creating a murky swirl of brooding rhythms, jagged guitar,
and cold synths that honors bands such as the Doors,
Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Echo and the
Bunnymen and early U2.
A hand-full of self produced demos in 2002 gained
Entertainme.nt club and airplay in Australia and the
Netherlands as well as underground acclaim in the U.S.
Within 8 months of their live debut, Entertainme.nt played
their first label showcase.
Their debut single, “Safe. at One” w/ “the Queen’s Beasts
(or suffer fools)” was released on Stickfigure records in
December 2003. Within one month Entertainme.nt’s debut
single became the #1 selling item in Stickfigure’s catalog.
